Way Back Wednesday - Beetlejuice

Veering from my theme of Disney movies, I'm jumping to Tim Burton movies. I loved the new "Alice in Wonderland" and it gave me an even deeper appreciation for his work. So, here is a mutual family favorite ...

... Beetlejuice is a 1988 comedy/horror/fantasy film directed by Tim Burton.

A couple of recently deceased ghosts contract the services of a "bio-exorcist" in order to remove the obnoxious new owners of their house.

The plot revolves around a recently dead young couple who become ghosts haunting their former home, a quaint little home on a hill overlooking the fictional town. When a family of metropolitan yuppies from New York City move into the house, the ghosts seek the help of an obnoxious, devious and mischievous "bio-exorcist" named Betelgeuse from the underworld in order to scare the new living inhabitants away permanently.

Beetlejuice stars Alec Baldwin, Geena Davis, Winona Ryder, Catherine O'Hara, Jeffrey Jones, Sylvia Sidney and Michael Keaton as the title character Betelgeuse (the film's title being a phonetic spelling of the character's name). Beetlejuice won an Academy Award for Makeup.

As Betelgeuse, Michael Keaton had some hilarious one-liners. Here are my favorites:

Betelgeuse: Go ahead... make my millennium.

Betelgeuse: Let's turn on the juice and see what shakes loose.

Betelgeuse: [after his name is said 3 times] It's showtime.

Betelgeuse: Not so fast, round boy. We're gonna have some laughs.

Betelgeuse: These aren't my rules. Come to think of it, I don't have any rules.

Betelgeuse: I'll eat anything you want me to eat. I'll swallow anything you want me to swallow. But, come on down and I'll... chew on a dog! Arroooo!

Betelgeuse: I gotta card around here, somewhere. Here, here. Who do I have to kill? Here hold that for me, would ya?

Betelgeuse: Mom, Dad. I just want you two to know, you're welcome at our house anytime you want to come over. In the meantime, the dowry's on me, dad.
