And Fun Was Had By All ....

.... Yesterday was my mother-in-law's 85th birthday. It's easy to remember her birthday because it falls on Flag Day.

We were invited to my Danville brother-in-law's home for a wonderful meal and fellowship.

The Doll's House

Don't forget - tonight and tomorrow night - March 13th and March 14th at 7:00pm in the auditorium the Mercer County Senior High School Drama Class will be presenting a staged reading of "A Doll's House" by Henrik Ibsen The presentation is free, but donations will be accepted.

Parents, family and friends are all encouraged to attend. The drama class is taught by Dustin Mosko. I must brag because my youngest daughter, Christine, is the stage manager for this production.

Mercer County Senior High is located at 1124 Moberly Road, Harrodsburg.

Academic Excellence

This morning I was late to work, and I didn't even over-sleep!! No, I had a good excuse, so I wanted to share with you.

My lovely daughter, Christine, was honored this morning, along with several other students, for her academic accomplishments in maintaining a 3.5 GPA (grade point average) or higher. Is it too much bragging if I say her GPA is higher? She is a junior and this is her 3rd year to receive an award. To say her father and I are proud is an understatement!

Before the award ceremony in our newly completed auditorium, the students were served a special breakfast provided by the Academic Boosters and several other sponsors from our community. It was wonderful to see so many parents attending this ceremony, even if it was at the beginning of the work day. Hubby and I had already made arrangements to attend, knowing we would have to work later than normal on a Friday - it was well worth the effort.

Okay, I'm stepping off my bragging box for the moment ... thanks for letting me gush ...

Governor's School for the Arts

I have to take a moment and brag about my youngest daughter, Christine. Back in December, she applied for the creative writing program for the Governor's School for the Arts. There was a lengthy application and she had to submit a manuscript of 8 pages or less - preferably a short story she had written.

Last week she was very upset because she had not heard from the school - announcements were supposed to go out January 26th, but we all know what happened last week. I tried to explain that the roads were ice covered and even if someone could get into the office, there may not be any electricity.

Well, I got home from work yesterday and Christine was walking on cloud nine!! She had finally received her answer - in the form of another packet of papers to be filled out. She made it past the first hurdle!! Now she needs to get a teacher (she has chosen her writing teacher) and a guidance counselor to filled out evaluations of her ability and then she will go through an interview and reading the first weekend in March.

Congratulations, Christine! This is something you have worked hard for and your daddy and I are very proud!!

Christmas Parade

Harrodsburg had its annual Christmas Parade last night - "Home for the Holidays" was this year's theme. I don't have any pictures because it was tooooooo cold last night to even hold a camera! For a hot-natured person like me to say it was too cold, believe me, it was cold - 25 degrees cold with a chilling wind to go with it!

As a matter of fact, if it weren't for the fact my daughter was marching with the Mercer Public Library, I wouldn't have been there at all! Every year the Library participates with the Bookmobile to generate awareness of the Library. This year was very important because the Library will be remodeling in 2009.
