THE INCIDENT - Season 5, Episode 16/17 (#102/103) - Finale

Jack's decision to put a plan in action in order to set things right on the island is met with some strong resistance by those close to him. Locke assigns Ben a difficult task.

******SPOILER ALERT*****

Hello?! - Is the ship on the horizon the Black Rock? And is that Jacob using the loom? Obviously the answers are yes and yes - but who is the other man on the beach with Jacob? Notice how Jacob is wearing light clothing and the other man dark clothing? Must be a sign of some kind. And hello again - there's the big, bad statue standing tall and all in one piece. Interesting how Jacob is sitting in the shadow of the statue - maybe that's the answer to the question, "What lies in the shadow of the statue?"

I have a theory that maybe Jacob is Richard's father - I mean they both never age - maybe they come from the same line of "long living genes" or something. Don't know, just a theory.

Anybody notice the book Jacob was reading before Locke dropped out of the sky? The book was, "Everything That Rises Must Converge" by Flannery O'Connor.

I liked how the Dharma van rolled in A-Team style to try and help out Jack with his suicide bombing mission. I don't like the fact that Sayid very well may bleed to death.

Ah ha moment: Jacob has touched the lives of all the Losties at some point or another - did not know this until tonight. Jacob touches Kate as a child, Sawyer after his parents are killed, Sayid when wife is killed, Locke when he is pushed out the window, at Sun and Jin's wedding, Jack after a major surgery, and Hurley after his discharge from jail. Will wonders never cease? Also, Jacob gives several of the Losties gifts, but not all - Kate gets the lunchbox, Jack a candy bar, Sawyer a pen, and Hurley the guitar (Charlie's?). Also, Jacob touches each of the Losties - was he passing on something through the touch??

What the hell moment: Throw down, Fight Club style - Sawyer and Jack! I've been waiting for this fight the entire series!!

Holy mackerel moment: "You found your loop hole?" Jacob to Locke; then "You have a choice." Jacob announces, "They're coming." Then Ben stabs Jacob and Locke rolls Jacob into the fire. Maybe Jacob is the fire monster, though that may be too simple of an answer. There were ashes all around Jacob's cabin, Smokey is obviously a smoke monster, then Locke rolls Jacob into the fire, turning him into smoke and ash - I'm just saying.

What lives in the shadow of the statue? "Richard, I'm Ilana; I have something you need to see." Richard answers the question, "what lies in the shadow of the statue" in Latin, "Ille qui nos omnes servabit" which translates to "He who will save us all."

Kick ass and ask questions later: Shoot 'em up cowboy - Jack has gone all Charles Bronson on the Dharma crew. Then Juliet going all gangsta and kicking ass on the sub. Then Showdown at the OK Corral between Sawyer and Jack. "See ya in Los Angeles" - now Jack is a suicide bomber.

Famous last words: "They found us." Yeah, Rose and Bernard at last!!

Best flash back: I enjoyed all the Jacob flashbacks, seeing him interact with the unknowing Losties.Heart wrenching moment: "Don't you leave me! Don't you leave me!!" Sawyer trying to hold on to Juliet - so sad. Also, Sayid watching his wife get hit by the car that kills her.

Unbelievable of the night: Juliet getting sucked into the magnetic mine shaft - I don't even like Juliet and I cried!!! But wait, she's not dead yet - oh! - kaboom - maybe she is now.

Best quote of the night: Oh my, there were several tonight! "Sit on my log." - Sawyer to Jack. "I changed my mind when I saw you look at her." - Juliet to Sawyer. "It only ends once. Anything that happens before is just progress." - Jacob. "So yes, I lied. That's what I do." - Ben to Sun. "I'm beginning to think that you make up these rules as you go along." — Locke to Richard

"Ah, how sweet" moment: When Sun finds Charlie's "Drive Shaft" ring and then flashes back to her wedding with Jin.

I don't understand moment: Is Locke dead? Is Locke really Jacob? Is Locke Smokey? Is Locke a figment of our imagination? Also, why did Ilana burn Jacob's cabin? And I still don't understand the significance of Hurley's numbers? I thought we were supposed to learn this in the finale.

Smokey alert: No sign of Smokey in the finale.

Best "pay back's a bitch" moment: Phil getting rammed through the heart with a metal rod - that's what you get for hitting a woman!

Whoa moment: What's in the box? Hell, Locke is in the box!

Could Miles be right: Maybe Miles is right, Jack is about to cause what he's trying to prevent. Maybe the nuke IS The Incident. The hatch is supposed to be created to contain the plutonium leak and not pushing the button in the hatch causes Oceanic to crash. Instead, Jack tries to stop the magnetic force with the bomb, but it doesn't work, so in essence, Jack causes Oceanic to crash. Makes sense to me!

What I missed: Where the hell is Claire????? What about Desmond, Penny, little Charlie, Aaron and Sun/Jin's baby?? What about Daniel - is he only "Island dead" or dead-dead?

Theories: 1.) Who thinks the bomb broke the statue - maybe it's a fertility god - and that's why no one can have kids?
2.) Theoretically, in time there can be two existing bodies of people, so that means that the time loop is in a constant cycle, only in one of the cycles, locke breaks free of the loop.

Oh gosh - it is going to be torture waiting for the last season to begin in 9 months - women can get pregnant and have a baby before the new season starts!

Follow the Leader - Season 5, Episode 15 (#101)

"Jack and Kate find themselves at odds over the direction to take to save their fellow island survivors, Locke further solidifies his stance as leader of the Others, and Sawyer and Juliet come under scrutiny from the Dharma Initiative."

I did not like watching Daniel die again, even if it was through Kate and Jack's eyes. Will his mother be able to bring him back to life? I sure hope so. It appears Daniel Faraday may really be dead, unless Eloise does what's written in the journal.

What??: Where did Richard get the ship in a glass bottle kit?? Does he have a way off the Island?

Hubba-Hubba moment: Sawyer telling Juliet he loves her. Okay, okay, so I haven't been much of a Juliet fan, but that was so romantic. Romantic, at least, until Kate was hauled aboard the sub and planted between Sawyer and Juliet. Poor Juliet can't catch a break.

Holy mackerel moment: Locke seems hell-bent on killing Jacob! So what exactly did Jacob do to piss Locke off? Also, the bomb is under the Dharma Compound?! Holy crap, Batman!

Funniest moment: When Dr. Chang is grilling Hurley about the year he was born and who was the President. All the funny moments seems to happen with Hurley - he is so good at comic relief.

Famous last words: "We'll buy Microsoft." That's my Sawyer - always thinking about the bottom line.

Best flash back: Seeing the current Locke watching the Locke from 3 years before. Can you imagine seeing yourself from 3 years in your past?

Heart wrenching moment: Watching Sun's face when Richard tells her he saw the 1977 Dharma crew die. Poor Sun! By the way, how come Sun doesn't know who Richard is? I thought all the original Losties had seen Richard before - shouldn't she remember him?

Unbelievable of the night: I can't believe Sawyer betrayed the rest of the Losties!

Best "pay back's a bitch" moment: Radzinsky is totally crazy! Doesn't he know that torture never gets you anywhere? But then Phil bitch-slaps Juliet - what a coward hitting a woman who's tied to a chair! Something tells me Radzinsky and Phil will eventually get what's coming to them.

Best quote of the night: "Since when did shooting kids and blowing up hydrogen bombs become OK?"
"Ah, how sweet" moment: The look Dr. Chang gave Miles when he finally realized Miles was his son.

I don't understand moment: How can the current Losties from the future be on the same Island with the 1977 Losties? How can Richard be in 2 places at one time?

Something fishy is afoot: Richard and Ben agreeing that Locke may have become a problem. I smell a conspiracy brewing!

Whoa moment: Sayid swoops in like the Lone Ranger.

Best "We're off to see the Wizard" imitation: Locke and his people marching off to find Jacob.
What I missed: Still missing Rose, Bernard and the rest of the original Losties!!

Next week is the 2-hour season finale!

The Variable - Season 5, Episode 14 (#100)

"Daniel Faraday returns to the island in order to warn its inhabitants of a catastrophe involving the Swan Station. Jack, Kate, and Daniel start a gun fight with the Dharma Initiative, leading Dharma to go after Sawyer and Juliet. In flashbacks, Daniel's relationship with his parents, Eloise Hawking and Charles Widmore, is shown."

Happy 100th episode!!! I loved this episode because we learned so much about Daniel Faraday. We also learned what a sneaky snake his mother, Eloise Hawkings, is! She puts Sybil's mother to shame.

*****SPOILER ALERT*****

What the hell moment: Daniel's mom is a true bitch!! All school work and no play will make Daniel a dull boy. I can't believe she didn't want him to continue playing the piano, and then later not have a girlfriend - unbelievable!

Hubba-Hubba moment: Daniel was right cute at his Oxford graduation!!

Funniest moment: Phil in the cabinet at Sawyer and Juliet's house - what did they think they were going to do with Phil??

Famous last words: Daniel, "I'm from the future..." Well, duh!!

Best flash back: All the flash backs about Daniel's earlier life - being the youngest to get his doctorate at Oxford, seeing the girlfriend (lab assistant Teresa), seeing him play the piano as a child - it was great to learn so much about Daniel.

Heart wrenching moment: I had 2 tonight: 1.) Having to watch Penny when Desmond was brought into the hospital. She was so afraid she was going to lose him again. 2.) Daniel telling little Charlotte to make sure she and her mother are on the submarine when Chang gives the evacuation order.

Unbelievable of the night: Charles Widmore is Daniel's father!

Best quote of the night: "Welcome to the meeting Twitchy." What Sawyer said when Daniel showed up at the house for the 2nd time.

"Ah, how sweet" moment: Little Charlie is adorable - I'm so glad he and Penny are okay and it seems Desmond will be fine.

I don't understand moment: I'm still uncertain about what happened to Daniel's memory. I know about the time travel accident and the death of Teresa, but I don't understand what happened to his memory.

The Ah-ha moment: Daniel wants to detonate the hydrogen bomb - the one he told Richard to bury back in 1950something. Apparently the bomb will keep the Swan station from being completed in the 1970s so the abnormal magnetic energy won't escape and there will be no need to build the hutch and no reason to have to push the button every 180 minutes so Oceanic Flight 815 will never crash - making everything right with the world. Whoa - what a mouthful!!

Blast from the past: Sawyer, Juliet, Hurley and Miles are going to be returning to the beach - yeah! Maybe we'll finally see the other castaways again. But hold on - oh no - caught in the act of hiding Phil - maybe they won't get back to the beach after all.

Jealous moment of the night: The look Juliet gave Sawyer when he called Kate "Freckles" - she looked like she wanted to tear Kate's throat open!! And then giving her the fence code so she would leave with Daniel and Jack - this was the first spark of "fire" I've seen in Juliet when it comes to Sawyer. I may change my opinion of her yet ...

Whoa moment: When Daniel said, "My mother was wrong." That was like the understatement of the year!

Holy mackerel moment: Eloise "Ellie" Hawkings shot her own son! I did not see that coming!

Payback's a bitch: You mess around with time travel and you end up having your mother shot you in the back!

What I missed: Once again, where are the other castaways and 2nd plane survivors???

SOME LIKE IT HOTH - Season 5, Episode 13 (#99)

Suspicions about a possible breach intensify after Ben is taken from the infirmary, and a reluctant Miles is forced to work with Hurley when he's asked to deliver an important package to a top Dharma official.

I enjoyed this episode because we got to see a lot more of Miles' background story. I've been wondering what he has to do with the Island and now I know - he's supposed to hear the dead.

Ah ha moment: Miles is the baby we saw in this seasons 1st episodes and cooky Dr. Chang is his father.



What the hell moment: Okay, another reference to "Do you know what lies in the shadow of the statue?" What does that mean? And who was the guy Miles was talking to? Was he a friend of Ilana’s?

Hubba-Hubba moment: I'm sorry, but I kinda liked the punk rock Miles - the hair and all those piercings - I'm just saying, I'm not too old to appreciate!

Holy mackerel moment: Miles was born on the Island - further proof that not all babies born on the Island die.



Funniest moment: Hurley writing the screenplay for "The Empire Strikes Back" - hilarious!!! Also, the entire scene with Hurley and Miles in the van - they remind me of Abbott and Costello!

What I missed: Once again, I miss Rose and the other castaways; I missed Sun, Frank and Locke; hell, I even missed Ben. And where did Smokey go?

Famous last words: "You're now in the Circle of Trust" - be afraid, be very afraid ...

Best flash back When Miles was a little boy and he found the dead man - I guess this was the first time he had actually heard a dead person talking to him.



Best quote of the night: 4 8 15 16 23 42 ... When Hurley said, "Cause they're building our hatch." Well, duh ... Also when Hurley said, "It’ll help with global warming, which hasn’t happened yet. So, maybe we can prevent it."

I don't understand moment: Okay, I knew Miles and Naomi were on the freighter together, but this was the first time we saw the 2 of them together before the Island. I get that part, but the part I didn't understand is why Whidmore wanted Miles to go to the Island. I know he can hear dead people, but what dead people does Whidmore want to hear? The dead Dharmas, the dead Others, the dead Hostiles ...?? And when she says "the island has an number of deceased individuals residing on it", does she mean residing in graves or actually living on the Island?

Blast from the past: All the Star Wars references that Hurley made - classic Hurley.

Best "pay back's a bitch" moment: You piss off Sawyer and you'll get a smack down ... "Get some rope."

Whoa moment: Whoa, what are they doing with the dead bodies?

And I had to look up the meaning of HOTH - even though I like the Star Wars movie, I'm not part of the fandom.

Hoth was the sixth planet of the remote Hoth system. A desolate world covered with ice and snow, located in the Anoat Sector, a rarely-traveled portion of the Outer Rim Territories, it became famous as the one-time location of the Alliance to Restore the Republic's Echo Base during the Galactic Civil War. DEAD IS DEAD - Season 5, Episode 12 (#95)

What was with the horses in the first scene? I remember Charlie or Hurley or someone having a "vision" of a horse in the 1st or 2nd season, but I don't remember any other reference to horses on the Island.

*****SPOILER ALERT*****

So Ethan was with Ben when he stole baby Alex - that was a new bit of info. I felt so sorry for Danielle Rousseau, but it was kind of shocking to learn that Ben actually had a heart at some point in his life. I thought it was creepy when Ben told Danielle, "When you hear whispers, run away." And Charles wanted Danielle and Alex both killed - why?? What's his connection to Danielle??

Sun and Frank are waiting in Ben's old house. When Ben and Locke finally arrive, they show Ben the 1977 group photo of Dharma - the one with Hurley, Sawyer, Kate, Jin, Miles, and Jack. Ben geuinely looks shocked! And what's with the hieroglypic-covered drawing on the wall of the house? Makes me wonder if the original occupant of the house might have been Jacob - guess we'll find out later. I guess it was understandable for Sun to think Jack lied to her about Locke being dead, since he's now standing right in front of her.

And what's with the gross dirty bathtub/pond thingy that Ben drains when looking for Smokey? And then he say, "I'll meet you outside." It seems impausible that Smokey would live in water - but then again, stranger things have happened on Island.

Ah, but Smokey don't play those games anymore and doesn't show up at Ben's beck-and-call. Ben doesn't know where Smokey is, but Locke does - hmm. This really gets Ben's goat - he can't stand it that Locke knows something he doesn't. My favorite line of the night is when Locke tells Ben: "Now you know how it felt to be me."
They arrive at the Temple, but they aren't going inside, they're going under it. When Locke sends Ben in to meet his judgement, Ben tells Sun: "Find Desmond and tell him I'm sorry. He'll know what you mean."

I was so afraid my fears about Penny were true, but alas, as many of Ben's plans go, he was unable to kill Penny. After shooting Desmond (but only wounding him), he points the gun at Penny, but hesitates when he sees little Charlie. Yes - then Desmond beats the crap out of Ben and throws in in the ocean! I was so afraid Ben had killed Penny. Thank God Desmond was only hurt!

Ben finally comes face to face with Smokey as the black monster flowed out of the vents under the Temple and made judgement on Ben. Then Smokey took the form of Alex and told Ben to follow Locke's every order and command. I bet Ben crapped his pants! I know Smokey is the one to pass judgement on the Island, I just wonder if he/it is able to correct the time changes on the Island?

Frank goes back to the other crash victims and is asked the question: "What lies in the shadow of the statue?" It looks like Ilana is now the leader of the 2nd plane crash victims.

Ah ha moment: Learning Charles broke the rules and left the Island numerous times - had a child (Penny) off the Island. So this is how Charles was banished from the Island. "I'll be seeing you, boy!"

Holy mackerel moment: Ben apologizes for killing Locke by shooting Ceasar - remind me to never ask Ben for an apology!

What I missed: Still missing Rose and the other castaways. Also missed the goings on in 1977. Where is Daniel Faraday?

Famous last words: "You're alive."

Best flash back Seeing Ben interact with a 4 year old Alex.

Heart wrenching moment Ben has a heart - he couldn't kill Danielle or Alex.

New Mystery of the night: The hieroglypics on the wall in Ben's old house and on the Temple wall.

Unbelievable of the night: Smokey manifesting as Alex.

Best quote of the night: "As long as the dead guy says there's a reason, I guess eveything will be just peachy."

I don't understand moment: How do Ben, Locke, Sun, Frank and the rest of the gang from the 2nd plane crash can co-exist on the Island with the 1977 Dharma group?

Smokey alert: He's under the Temple, not in the Temple.

Best "pay back's a bitch" moment: Ben being ordered by Smokey to follow ALL of Locke's orders.

Whoa moment: Seeing Desmond beat the crap out of Ben.
