Salt in the Wounds, Season 4, episode 17 (#75)

Brennan and Booth investigate the death of a 16-year-old pregnant girl who was found buried in a pile of street salt. During their investigation they uncover a high school "pregnancy pact" between the victim and some of her fellow volleyball players.

Because this week's murder victim was a young pregnant girl found in a city salt heap, Cam takes over the forensics of the case and overrules Bones. Cam has an idea on how to "rehydrate" the body, so she refuses to let Bones de-flesh the bones. Interesting dynamic going on between Cam and Bones.

There was a brand new intern this week and he was truly different from any of the other interns. Vaziri was a Musslium and a strong character of faith - he set a good example for everyone. Bones was frustrated because he had to stop and pray 5 times a day, but he was a nice counterpoint to Dr. Soroyan without being too annoying.

Booth and Bones were almost pushed to the background in this episode because more of the supporting cast was on stage. Dr. Sweets and Anglea went undercover to gather info on the suspected murderer, Cam showed more of her hands on skills instead of just being the boss, and Hodgins and Anglea ended up once again in the Egyptian Room - I'm not saying any more about this because it will be a true spoiler, but just let me say, I've waited for this episode all season. Oh, did I forget to tell you? Roxie broke up with Anglea!

Although Booth and Bones had to interview a girl's volleyball team about a pregnancy pact, we didn't have as much of the lively banter between the 2 main characters. I did think it was sweet of Booth to take the teenage "father" to task and try to set him on the right path and instead of ending the show with a personal exchange between Booth and Bones, we have Bones watching Booth from the sidewalk.

My favorite quote of the night came from the chiropractor (murder suspect). Bones tells him he is very informative to not be a "real" doctor and he counters her with, "You're not a real doctor either." The look on Bones' face was priceless.

All in all, another great episode!

The Bones That Foam - Season 4, Episode 16 (#74)

The team only has a short time to find out what happened to a murdered car salesman before his foaming bones completely disintegrate.

I was so happy to finally have a new episode! This is the beginning of 11 new episodes for 11 straight weeks.

Very unusual beginning - clever way to discover a body. Vincent Nigel-Murray returned as Brennan's intern - not my favorite of this season's interns, but not horrible either. And what a disgusting body! Foaming bones - now I think I've seen everything.

I think it's funny that Bones is trying to compete with Booth in the interpersonal relationship department. And having Sweets try to teach her - priceless!! Bones spent a lot of time with Sweets tonight, so I hope this is the beginning of more air time for my favorite psychologist.

Hodgins worked well with Mr. Nigel-Murray, but there wasn't as much interaction between him and Angela. I got my hopes up with the last episode that maybe there was a chance of them getting back together, but now I don't know.

And you've got to love a great car! Not only did Booth show off his diving skills, but he let Bones get behind the wheel. It ended badly, but it was funny.

This episode just makes me hungry for next week's episode!

Episode #415 - The Princess and the Pear

Another hilarious episode! Booth has hurt his back again and is begging Bones to "use your magic knuckles" to fix it like last time. Bones is hesitant because she is afraid his back problem is a recurring issue, but she gives in and cracks his back. Booth ends up at the hospital! So needless to say, Booth is not on stage much this episode.

Because Booth is out of action, Bones partners up with Agent Perotta again as they try to solve the mystery of the murdered medieval princess.

Dr. Fisher is back as a recurring intern (I've given up on the Bones' Intern-O-Meter because the last 2 episodes did not have any interns)! He is hilarious - a dark, bruding guy depressed over the break-up with his lady love. Dr. Fisher was called upon to infiltrate an ImagiCon (similar to Comicon) Convention to help track down the murderer. I hope we see more of him in future episodes - he is too funny!

Dr. Sweets also got to be on stage for the majority of the episode. How cute was he in his Star Trek outfit?? And then to get run off the road with Bones in the car with him - I enjoy Dr. Sweets!

So, we didn't get much Booth this episode, but we did get Dr. Sweets and Dr. Fisher. I'm actually not too crazy about Agent Perotta - she's trying to make moves on Booth and she needs to just keep her hands off him!

Oh, I almost forget - last night there was a glimmer of hope between Angela and Hodgins! I'm still rooting for the two of them to get back together again - they make such a cute couple!

Season 4, Episode 11: The Bone That Blew

Bones has conflicting emotions when father Max - Ryan O'Neal - lands a teaching job at the Jeffersonian. Bones can't get past the fact that he is a convicted felon. But when he ends up helping out with a new murder case, Bones is upset by his sudden presence in her professional life. Dr. Sweets tries to analyze her, but gets no where. Booth is finally the one to make Bones see reason.

As for the murder, this one took a turn that I wasn't expecting. Not only do we get to see how the filthy rich live, but we also see how the children of privilege are educated and raised.

Cam plants a see in Hodgins and is finally able to see it grow. Since Zack's confinement in the psych ward, Hodgins has been unwilling to do any more experiments. With the help of Max and the new intern - again, a returning intern from earlier in the season - Hodgins completes an experiment that proves to be critical in solving the case.

I really should give up on the Bones' Intern-O-Meter because they have started to recycle interns, but I just can't help it! I'm changing the count to include each episode (the first one technically counts as 2, but not for my count) and the returning interns

Season 4, Episode 10: The Passenger in the Oven

Booth and Bones are on a 13 hour flight to China, because Bones is scheduled to identify pre-historic remains. However, knowing a murder must be lurking around the corner, there flight is interrupted when a fully cooked human body is discovered in the plane's industrial-sized microwave. Can we all say ewwwwww!!!!

Booth and Bones are able to send evidence (high resolution pictures) to the Jeffersonian for processing. They discover the victim was a travel writer who had recently written a controversial piece about airline pilots. We also learn from her jealous employer that the victim had been dating a married man.

In true Bones fashion, there are several suspects on the plane and Booth and Bones must race to solve the case before the plane lands and they lose jurisdiction.

In other storylines, this infatuation Angela has with her ex-lover Roxie is getting annoying. Why can't she just get back together with Hodgins? They are perfect for each other. We also got to see more of Caroline Julian - I have missed her sarcastic wit this season!

Bones' Intern-O-Meter stands at 1 for 6 - there was no intern this week.

And on another note, I received Bones Season 3 Disc 5 DVD from Netflix today. Disc 5 is supposed to contain the special features from Season 3. I was TOTALLY disappointed when I found out that the only thing on this disc is the first 4 episodes of Season 4 - the current season! I know the writer's strike missed up the number of episodes, but why have a bonus disc if there is not going to be any bonus material on it???!!!

Episode #9 - The Con Man in the Meth Lab (2-part opener counted as 2 episodes)

As the State Police are practicing a police raid on a meth lab, a really gross body is found - with a bang.

As Bones and Booth begin their investigation, a second body is found, complicating matters just a bit. There is a wide range of suspects for the murder.

Also in this episode, we get to meet Booth's baby brother, Jared. After Cam has to break a date with Jared, Bones ends up taking her place. Later, Jared does something stupid and Booth has to once again bail him out of trouble.

I really enjoyed that we learned so much about Booth's background. He holds everything so close to the vest, that we have no idea what his childhood was like.

This episode had too many twists and turns to keep up with and the climax was awesome - totally not what I was expecting. No wonder this show just gets better and better.

Of course, this episode has really screwed with the Bones' Intern-O-Meter because Dr. Clark Edison was back. This is his second appearance this season, in addition to the two episodes from last season. This week's Intern-O-Meter should be 0-6, but since we're recycling interns, I guess this will technically be 1 for 6 - Clark neither quit or got fired, so I have a feeling he'll be back. Eight (9) episodes - the 2 part opener counted as 2 shows - 6 total interns.

Episode 8 - The Skull in the Sculpture

When a decomposing human is found inside a crushed car in a junk yard, Booth and Bones are called to investigate. Turns out the murder victim is an impressionist artist and list of suspects grows: his kabuki faced agent, a revival artist and his assistant - one Roxie Lyons, whom Angela had a gay relationship in college. (She was mentioned in Season 3 when the PI was trying to track down Angela's husband.)

This was an interesting episode, but after re-runs for the past month, I was really expecting more of Bones and Booth. This episode revolved more around Angela, and although I love Angela, I wanted to see more of Bones and Booth.

Daisy Wick makes a return appearance as a rotating intern (she was also in Episode #2 of this season, The Man in the Outhouse) She is getting on everyone's nerves - even easy going Cam. When Cam confides in Dr. Sweets, he tells her he will talk to the newest intern. Turns out Dr. Sweets has secretly been dating Ms. Wick - way to go Sweets!

My favorite quote of the night was when Booth and Bones were in the car and Booth was talking to Caroline:

Booth: "She's da bomb."
Bones: "Why is she a bomb?"
Booth: "Not a bomb, da bomb - da bomb!"

My second favorite quote of the night was after Bones dumped a jar of dermestid beetles into the crushed car (the car was under federal protection and the team weren't allowed to cut it open to retrieve the body):

"I was gonna say it spilled by accident.."

Episode #7 - The He in the She

Booth and Bones are call to the Chesapeake Bay to investigate a body found by a couple of stoners. They problem is, they find only the upper torso, giving the team little to work. The one obvious clue is the remnants of the victim's breast implants.

Because of the breast implants, Bones and Booth are led to a small church in Maryland, where they find that the victim was a pastor. When the team finds the lower half of the body, they learn the victim was a transgender who had undergone a sex change operation.

This episode had many religious elements, which caused a conflict between Booth and Bones. Of course, Bones does not belive in a higher being, but Booth is a devote Catholic. These differences lead to some hilarious verbal exchanges.

We got to see more of Angela's fiesty personalty, which has been missing for most of this season. I also think Hodgins is starting to get over some of his depression. Dr. Sweets had minimal face time this episode, and what we saw of him looked like it was forced, just to get him some screen time; I'm ready for him to play a bigger role with the team. The new intern was hilarious, and for a minute, I thought he was going to end of in bed with Cam; maybe Cam is growing up!

This is the technically the 7th episode (the 2-part first episdoe counted as 2 episodes). So far we haven't seen Caroline Julian or Max Keenan - I know they are scheduled for guest appearances, but don't know when. I continue to love the fast past of the show and how the mystery is not solved until the very end.

Episode 6 - THE CRANK IN THE SHAFT

To start off, the body in this episode was gross! An office elevator is full of employees, all heading into work, when everyone starts to notice a smell. Thinking it's a "you smelt it, you dealt it" kind of deal, everyone is revolted to see a decomposed leg fall out of the trap door in the elevator. I told you, gross!

Booth and Bones are called out of a session with Dr. Sweets to head to the crime scene. My hubby and daughter were rolling with laughter during the Dr. Sweets scene, because Booth was constantly shaking his leg up and down - this is the same thing I do and my family thought it was hilarious. Also, Booth had on his favorite "Cocky" belt buckle - I love that belt buckle.

True to form for episodes this season, there is a merritt of possible suspects for this crime, all keeping you guessing until the very end. For the past several episodes, I have not been able to guess the suspect and have ended up being totally surprised.

Meanwhile, on the Angela and Hodgins front, they are both still acting weird around each other. Angela ends up interrupting Dr. Sweets' lunch again to try and get his input, but as usual, Angela figures it out for herself. It looks like they have finally made peace with their break-up, so maybe the lab won't feel so alien the rest of the season. I still feel like they will end up back together again.

Poor Cam has the patience of a saint. Trying to control Hodgins recent attitudes and dealing with the new interns - she always manages to keep a smile on her face. And speaking of interns, we had a weird one tonight. He was very intelligent, but so self-depricating!

Episode 5 - The Perfect Pieces in the Purple Pond


The pieces of a dismembered body are found lying in a purple pool of water, but there's one catch - the head is missing. Booth and Bones learn that the body belongs to Jared Addison, a science fiction writer with severe Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD).

With the help of Dr. Sweets, several suspects are brought in for questioning, but the pieces are falling into place.

The team has trouble finding enough evidence to determine case of death, mainly because the victim's head still missing. Hodgins is still having a hard time dealing with Zack being gone. We actually get to see Zack interact with Hodgins when he visits the psych hospital, and then later in the show, Dr. Sweets makes a visit. When Hodgins visits Zack, he leaves him the case file, hoping Zack will come up with new leads into the case.

The list of suspects for tonight's murder are an OCD therapist, the owner of a coffee bar, the victim's girlfriend (who is 28 years older then him), the girlfriend's son, and another OCD patient who confesses to the murder. However, true to form, none of these turn out to be the murder. I was actually shocked to learn the real killer; usually I can figure it out before the ending, but not this week.

Zack figures out who the murderer is. After stealing the magnetic strip from Dr. Sweets' ID for the psych hospital, Zack shows up at the Jeffersonian to share his evidence with the team.

It's during the last few minutes of the show that an interaction between Zack and Dr. Sweets sheds to light the true Gormogon killer.


OMG! I knew Zack wasn't a murderer. I've been having trouble wrapping my head around last season's finale because I just couldn't see Zack as a cold blooded killer. Just to finally know that Zack was a victim of Gormogon, and did not directly kill anyone - that answers a lot of questions I've had all summer. (Remember the summer of Dallas and who shot J. R.?) After everything he's been through, it's nice to know Zack is still Zack.

Episode #4 - The Finger in the Nest



While in the park with his son, Parker, Booth lifts his son up to investigate a bird nest in a tree and discovers a corpse's finger in the nest. This launches the Jeffersonian team into an investigation to try to find the rest of the body.

The new, temporary intern - much to Hodgins chargrin - is able to pinpoint the location of the body because of tree sap found on the finger. After finding the corpse, the team determines the victim's death was caused by a dog. This leads them to the horrific world of illegal dog fighting.

To me, the heartbreaking part of this episode was not the treatment of the dogs - which I find deploreable - but Hodgins reaction to all the changes in his life. Dr. Sweets, sensing the turmoil in Hodgins, starts hanging around the Jeffersonian, trying to get Hodgins to talk.



On a funnier note, Booth is determined Parker will have psychological problems after finding the finger in the nest and he finally tricks Dr. Sweets into talking to Parker. We also get to see some real emotions out of Bones when it comes to one of the dogs in the episode.

After being slightly disappointed with last week's episode, this week's show has redeemed my faith in the series. Next week's episode will have a guest appearance by Eric Milligan (Zach). Maybe this will be part of the closure that Hodgins needs.

Episode #3 -Man in the Outhouse





Bones and Booth investigate the murder of a man found in an outhouse. The very first scene has a truck driver entering a roadside "outhouse" while pulling a pack of cigerettes out of his pocket. As soon as the outhouse door is shut, the man must "flick his Bick" because the outhouse explodes into a huge fireball and throws the man out onto the ground - with his ass on fire (he ends up living).

However, while examining the scene, it is discovered there is a body in the "pit" of the outhouse and Booth and Bones are called to investigate.

One of the funniest things about this episode is that Brennan dates two men simultaneously and winds up being dumped by both. Booth comforts her. He tells her there is that perfect someone out there for her to spend the rest of her life. This should satisfy all viewers on either side of the "should they" - "shouldn't they" question - Booth's obvious jealousy at Brennan's relationship with two men combined with how he deals with the situation.

All in all, not one of my favorite episodes, but not horrible either. I have a problem with bathroom humor and there were entirely too many "poop" jokes! But we did get to see another side of Bones and Booth that has been missing in previous seasons.

And poor Dr. Sweets - he tries so hard to fit in! We get to see more of Neil, the stalker, as he helps Booth gather information. And another intern bites the dust! Bones' Intern-O-Meter is 0 for 2 ...

Thursday Thirteen #11 - Bones

Bones is back on the FOX network for a 4th season! Check out my "Morning After Bones" post just before this one to read about last night's premiere episode, "Yanks in the U.K." Seeley Booth, Temperance Brennan and the rest of the gang for another thrilling season of crimes, forensics and friends.

In honor of the new season premiere, I give you 13 reasons to love Bones:

1.) Special Agent Seeley Booth, played by David Boreanaz - need I say more? In case you missed it, click here to see my TT dedicated just for David! This photo is from season 3 of Bones.


2.)Dr. Temperance Brennan, played by Emily Deschanel. How is she going to react now that Zack is no longer at the Jeffersonian? Will she be able to find another assistant? Will she and Booth finally get together?


3.) Angela Montenegro, played by Michaela Conlin. Will Angela be able to find you estranged husband? Will she and Hodgins finally get married? Will we see more of her daddy, ZZ Top front man Billy Gibbons?




4.) Dr. Jack Hodgins, played by T.J. Thyne. How is Hodgins going to react now that his partner in crime - Zack - is no longer around? Will he and Angela finally tie the knot?





5.) Dr. Camille Saroyan, played by Tamara Taylor. Will we finally learn more about Dr. Saroyan's past? Will we see more of her family? Will she continue to have ocassional "special relations" with Booth?



6.) Dr. Lance Sweets, played by John Francis Daley - he's also a cutie. Will he continue to counsel Bones and Booth, or will he be reduced to just a profiler? I love his corny dialogue mixed in with his intelligent speech.


7.) DA Prosecutor Caroline Julian, played by Patricia Belcher. How can you not love Caroline? She is a smart prosecutor with a smart-ass mouth - you can't ask for more!




8.) The bones and the bodies! It never ceases to amaze me how the FX department comes up with all the "unusual" bodies and bones for the show. Ickie-poo!



9.) The sexual tension between Booth and Bones! I love the sexual tension and I hope the show draws it out as long as possible. Every time a show pulls the two main characters together in a sexual relationship, the ratings go down and then the show is doomed. I want Bones to be around for a long time to come!


10.) The love affair between Angela and Hodgins! They are so hot together! I love their spontanaity and their sexual appetite. Remember the Egyptian bed and the storage room? Hubba hubba!




11.) Guest appearances by Ryan O'Neal as Max Keenan. Although I'm not crazy about the character of Max, I love the way O'Neal portrays him. What's going to happen now that's he's out of jail?




12.) Watching the entire cast work together as a team - they are funny, smart, engaging and just plain interesting to watch.




13.) And finally, guest appearances by Eric Millegan as Zack Addy. Last season, we learned he was the Gormogon apprentice, so Zack is now in a psychiatric facility.

Season 4, episode 1 and 2
Yanks in the U.K.




Season 4 begins all the way in England, with Booth speaking at Scotland Yard and Brennan guest-lecturing at the prestigious Oxford University. Naturally, Booth is sleeping through Brennan's lecture - how typically Booth!

However, their trip is extended after they're drawn into the investigation of a high-profile murder of a wealthy American's daughter that involves a British heir. They are invited to share their expertise by their British counterparts, the twist being that the FBI agent is female, while the forensics pro is a bloke. As Bones and her peer talk shop, a romance sparks. That leads to moments where Booth tries to subvert his "rival's" bid to bed Bones; i.e., he is so damn jealous!

Meanwhile, back at the Jeffersonian, Angela is shocked by the return of her estranged husband, who must agree to a divorce before she can marry Jack - the hitch being, he is still in love with Angela. Of course, the hubby and Hodgins end up in a fight; actually Hodgins throws a punch and the hubby throws Hodgins - into a garbage truck.

To make a 2-hour story short, Dr. Sweets gives advice to Camille and ends up having to counsel Camille, Angela and Jack; Camille ends up sleeping with Angela's ex; Brennan's new assistance - Clark (you'll remember him from "Widow's Son in the Windshield" and "The Verdict in the Story") - ends up quitting in frustration; and a shocker of an ending with Angela and Hodgins.

Season 4 is off to a rip roaring start! I didn't much care for the gang being separated by "the big pond" because so much was lost in the phone calls and video conferences, but I understand the need for a grand opener. But according to the trailer for this season's show the bodies should be "gooshier" and the stories more involved as the season progresses. I for one will be settled in front of the TV every Wednesday evening at 8 p.m.
