Dexter Finale Explodes

OMG! I was so totally shocked with the season finale of DEXTER last night!

***NO SPOILERS HERE***

I am so pumped now for next season because I don't know which direction the show will be taking. For those of you who have read the books, I wonder if the TV character of Harrison - Dexter's son - will take the place of Cody - Dexter's step-son?? Makes me curious to find out.

I was a little bummed that the last scenes with Trinity were so tame, almost anti-climatic, but the show made up for it in the last minute of the show.

I also enjoyed watching the after interview with Michael C. Hall and John Lithgow - wonderful insight these great actors had on their characters.

Dexter vs. Trinity

The Trinity killer is really just like Dexter! I sure didn't see that coming. I know it's strange to be rooting for a bad guy like Dexter, but come on, Michael C. Hall just embodies this character and you can't help but like him.

All this time I thought the deliciously evil John Lithgow was playing a wack-out, deranged killer, but he turns out to be a family man - just like Dexter.

This season of Dexter is shaping up to be a real nail bitter and I'm eagerly awaiting each week's new episode. I also have the new Jeff Lindsay novel - DEXTER BY DESIGN - to keep me entertained. Also, Showtime is also presenting 2 "webisodes" of Dexter, produced to show us some of Dexter's origins. Check out Showtime's Early Cuts.

Darkly Dreaming Dexter

Holy crap, Batman, Dexter was awesome last night. After waiting a full season for my favorite serial killer to return to the small screen, blood splatter expert, Dexter Morgan did me proud. Who would have thought I'd end up rooting for a murderer??

Believe it or not, Dexter (Michael C. Hall) is a family man now - married to Rita (Julie Benz), brand-new baby (Harrison, how cute!) and 2 step-children. Can he really have it all and stay true to his dark passenger? Apparently juggling all the facets of his life is not going to be a walk in the park, and that's what makes him so lovable.

I loved, loved, loved the reworking of the show opening. For 3 seasons we have watched Dexter swap a mosquito, pull on his t-shirt and jauntily walk out the door - well, now he's missing the mosquito because of lack of sleep, pulling a t-shirt covered in baby puke, and yawning so loudly he can't hear himself think. Hehe - typical everyday dad stuff.

But the sleep deprivation isn't all fun and games. Dexter messes up big time when he brings the wrong notes to a murder trial and he falls asleep while staking out a new victim. He is definitely off his game.

Dexter's little sis, Deb Morgan (Jennifer Carpenter), at least seems happy with her new boyfriend from last season, former CI, Anton (David Ramsay), until her former lover from season, Special Agent Frank Lundy (Keith Carradine), 2 shows up. Things will probably get messy. And what's up with LaGuerta (Lauren Vélez) and Batista (David Zayas)? I mean, I love Batista, but he seems like the last guy LaGuerta would take up with, but who knows?

The special treat of this season is the introduction of the Trinity Killer. John Lithgow is the special guest star this season and he plays Arthur Mitchell, a.k.a. the Trinity Killer. Lithgow has played some great parts in his time, but he is so eerily spooky as this mild-mannered killer, I was almost afraid to turn the light off last night. Watching him set up a bathroom for a romantic bath put me at ease, until he startled the unknowing woman. Next thing you know, they are both in the bathtub naked and the Killer has is Victim in a choke hold before slitting her femoral artery. Cold chills ran down my spine.

Just knowing Dexter and Trintiy will be dancing a minuet this season is thrilling and I can't wait to see what the writers have in store for us. Buckle your seat belts, it's going to be a bumpy ride!

Boo - Hiss

Boo - hiss - boo - hiss - it's that time of year again! No, I'm not talking about Christmas holiday or the New Year, I'm talking about the season finale of some of my favorite television shows.

Tonight I lost 2 of my all time favorite: Dexter and Californication.

The season finale of Dexter has Rita and Dexter finally married, Deb has her Detective shield, Miguel Prada is dead and his brother Ramon has come to terms with his life, and all the story lines are wrapped up. So, what's to come with Season 4? Well, we know Rita is having a baby, so Dexter will be a real father at some point during Season 4. Will he be able to rein in his killing tendencies once he's married? And what is it that makes normal rational people root for a serial killer like Dexter?

The season finale of Californication finds Karen moving to New York for a new job, but Hank and Becca are remaining in California. Becca and Damien have made up, so this will probably be a big story line for Season 3. How is Hank going to handle being a single father? How will Karen stand to be away from Becca? Because Becca is my favorite character, I look forward to seeing more of her in 2009. And what about Charlie and Marci (cokey Smurf)? Will they get back together?

Both of these shows have been picked up for new seasons, but they have only stated they will return in 2009 - not when in 2009.

Here's to a speedy return of Dexter and Californication !!!!

Dexter

After many long months of waiting, the 3rd season of Dexter premiered tonight. Does it make me a little crazy because one of my favorite shows is about a serial killer? Michael C. Hall is the perfect actor to play this unusual character and I'm on the edge of my seat for every episode.

Season 3, Episode 1, "OUR FATHER"

For Dexter, life seems to be going well; actually better than expected. His relationship with Rita and her kids - Cody and Aster - is back on track. He is becoming the perfect boyfriend and father subsitute.

He’s no longer under scrutiny at his day job as a blood spatter analyst for Miami Metro Homicide. His arch nemsis - Doakes - was killed in last seasons finale, and the evil Lila is finally out of his life, permanently. And his night job as a serial killer is operating on all cylinders.

So when he sets his sights on Freebo, a dope dealer and killer of two college girls, it looks to be just another night of Dexter’s dark justice. But things don’t go as planned and Dexter must find a way to extract himself from a pair of problems that he created, both in his home and night life.

Dexter also finds himself drawn to Miguel Prado, an Assistant District Attorney, who has a very personal reason to bring Freebo to justice.

Meanwhile, Debra is put in a difficult situation when someone from Internal Affairs wants her to inform on her new partner, Quinn. Angel gets a well deserved promotion to Detective Sergent, which makes him Debra's boss. And Masuka is Masuka - he'll never change.

By the way, if you've never read the novels by Jeff Lindsay, you are missing another big segment of the Dexter craze.
