The Morning After "Weeds"
I'm probably going to hell for the television programs I watch, but some of them are so deliciously good, you can't help but watch. Showtimes original series Weeds is just such a show. My Southern Baptist roots tell me I should not like this show, much less watch it every week, but my common sense - and my funny bone - tell me other wise!
Last nights episode was "The Three Coolers". After the death of her grandmother-in-law's - Bubbie - death, the entire Botwin family sits shiva (the Jewish period of mourning) for seven days. Being a Baptist, I had no idea what shiva was, but it was hilarious to watch the family sitting at the empty bedside of Bubbie. They left the door unlocked for other mourners to visit and bring food, but the only other people showing up were real estate brokers hoping to list the house!
After shiva, Guillermo sends Nancy on a mission and she takes Andy along with her. This is only supposed to be a pick-up and Nancy doesn't have to cross the border, but who would have thought the border patrol would be the ones making the drop?!!
Now that shiva is over and Bubbie is gone, Grandpa Lenny decides to sell the house and he toys with the real estate brokers who showed up to the shiva. While hunting for Bubbie secret "Jewish bribery money", Lenny and Shane discover the money Nancy has been hiding in the house. Lenny decides to leave town with Nancy's money and demands Nancy send him $10,000 a month to support his gambling addiction.
Doug is fleeing prosecution for an insurance scam, and stripped of his CPA license he finds refuge with the Botwins. Celia continues her flirtation with Captain Till, singing "You Are An Obsession" with him in a Karaoke bar (man, she has a lousey voice!)
My only complaint so far this season is the absence of Conrad and Heylia - when will they return?!!
If you want to spend 30 minutes of rip-roaring fun, tune in every Monday night at 10 o'clock for the next installment of Weeds.
